Pam Buckingham
Pam Buckingham made it into the Guinness World Book of Records for the highest number of driving test attempts. She had 27 to obtain her driving license. She was interviewed on TV by Michael Aspell at the time. Her car was a dark red 1968 Mini Traveller with a wood trim, registration number OAU 510F. She named it Emmeline but didn’t drive when it rained because Emmeline did not like getting wet.
Pam had a sweet gentle nature although her and her mother’s style of dress and hats used to frighten some of the children. This was toned down in her later years. She also became president of the Horticultural Society. She was 85 when she died after spending 4 years at Windle Court Nursing Home in South Woodham Ferrers. She sadly suffered from dementia in her later years.
