Household recycling in South Woodham Ferrers
Each household is given a variety of bins by the Council to recycle their rubbish. Each household has:
- a brown wheelie bin for garden waste
- a black wheelie bin for general waste
- a vegetable peelings/discarded food bin
- a paper sack
- a cardboard sack
- a plastic sack for recyclable plastic
Details of when the various rubbish containers are collected are published on the Chelmsford Council website. People also receive a paper copy of the calendar of dates.
Missed collections can be reported to the council on 01245 615800
The biodegradable ood bin liners are delivered to households once a year in September. Anyone who runs out before then should use old newspaper or buy more.
Although the majority of residents do recycle, the general complaints concern the number of the different containers and where to store them. It is fine for people who live in houses and have a garden and garage but rather more difficult for those who live in compact flats.
There is a recycling centre on Ferrers Road, CM3 5ZA, where residents can take additional domestic household waste. A booking system is being trialled which requires people who wish to attend to book a time slot. Anyone without access to the internet can phone Essex County Council 0345 743 0430 to book a slot (from 27th February 2023).
